Alliance for the Great Lakes' Adopt-a-Beach™ Volunteers
Last year more than 7,000 volunteers in five Great Lakes states participated in the Alliance for the Great Lakes' Adopt-a-Beach™ program. Together they: - Checked water quality and investigated beach health at 200+ beach sites.
- Removed 426,811 pieces of litter and debris from Great Lakes shorelines.
- Collected data that was compiled into a regional database for use in pollution prevention and education.
- Launched their own projects including letter-writing and litter reduction campaigns.
You can help continue this important work. Donate $13.35 to the Alliance and you'll provide a start-up kit, data collection forms and a water test kit for a team of Adopt-a-Beach™ volunteers. Give at a higher level and you'll help provide training opportunities, an online database, busing for school groups, and other support. Volunteer to adopt a beach near you. The Alliance will help you find a beach to adopt and provide you with an Adopt-a-Beach™ start-up kit that includes instructions, data collection forms and a water test kit. | "We can and should inspire others to get involved, use less water where we can, make sure that we are not dumping garbage into this amazing body of water, and participate in cleanup efforts like those organized by the Alliance for the Great Lakes." -- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin |
