Lake Michigan Watershed Ecosystem Partnership  for Illinois

LMWEP Boundaries

Where is the Lake Michigan watershed in Illinois?

The Lake Michigan watershed is widest near the Wisconsin border, where it extends several miles inland from the coast. It gradually narrows as it travels south through Lake County. In much of Cook County, including Chicago, the watershed is comprised solely of the land directly adjacent to Lake Michigan.

What about the Calumet River?

The Calumet River and Lake Calumet are connected to Lake Michigan and are historically important to the Great Lakes. An existing partnership covers this watershed, however. We will work with participants in the Calumet region as an LMWEP develops.
