Great Lakes Sand Dunes: A Teaching Tool
 Photo: Tom Rohrer
Use the PowerPoint presentation "Sand Dunes for Students" to teach your students about Great Lakes sand dunes, the largest stretch of freshwater sand dunes in the world. This PowerPoint, with accompanying slide by slide script, can be used in lieu of a visit to the sand dunes or can serve as preparation for a field trip to the dunes. The PowerPoint covers core science curriculum content including: ecology (including the concept of succession), geology, biology (including adaptations), and environmental science (including threats to the sand dune ecosystem). The script contains suggestions for developmental modification of language when presenting to students of varying ages. "Sand Dunes for Students" was made in partnership with assistance from Elizabeth Brockwell-Tillman, naturalist at PJ Hoffmaster State Park Gillette Sand Dune Visitor's Center. For additional sand dune resources, see the Sand Dune section of our website.
