The Alliance, in collaboration with Great Lakes Basin environmental groups, has published a compilation of water conservation policies and practices for consideration by Great Lakes states, provinces and water utilities in meeting their requirements under the Great Lake Compact and Agreement.
In approving the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact and Agreement, the Great Lakes states agreed to develop and approve by December 2010 water conservation goals and objectives consistent with the compact.
The Canadian provinces of Montreal and Quebec accepted a similar obligation under the agreement, but with a less definitive timeline.
